What is ETEP?
Exploring the European Past: Texts and Images (ETEP) is a customizable reader designed to fit any Western Civilization course. Experts from The Ohio State University and other respected institutions have developed ETEP to replace traditional source readers. Unlike ordinary source readers, ETEP is a hybrid program that includes both print and electronic sources. The uniqueness of the program is two-fold: first, you select only the modules you wish to include; secondly, each module carefully blends three elements that bring to life the events, people, and concepts that defined Western Civilization:
1. Primary Sources: By presenting an original account of each historical topic, the professionally translated primary sources provide students with an invaluable first-hand perspective of the past.
2. Secondary Sources: Interpretations by modern scholars help readers understand the meaning and purpose of primary sources. The secondary sources present the diverse opinions of various historians that enhance the material and encourage students to develop their own interpretation of the information provided.
3. Visual Sources: Full-color photographs and graphics are provided in the form of online visual sources. These images enhance the written components and teach students to view and interpret visual materials as historical sources. Historical images include architecture, artifacts, photographs, artwork, and maps (some of which are animated). The electronic component is provided with the purchase of a new reader fromCengage Learning at no additional charge. To sample the Visual Sources, click here.
